چکیده

This paper focuses on the nature of the rate error which arises when a first-order digital differentiator is applied to the output of a uniform quantizer for the purpose of rate estimation. The quantizer input is assumed to be a constantrate signal which is subject to a uniformly distributed noise source. New formulae are presented for the corresponding rms and spectral error characteristics. The results are applicable to the signal processing of sensor outputs, exemplified by the shaft encoder-based velocity estimation of an almost uniformly rotating mass. Both computer-generated finite data sets and experimental data derived from encoder-based shaft velocity measurements are utilized to verify the theoretical results. The results described are also applicable to a more general class of systems which involve the digital differentiation of quantized, noise-affected signals, such as first-order sigma–delta modulators with nominally constant input.

Shaft encoder characterization via theoretical model of differentiator with both differential and integral nonlinearities

A model of an incremental shaft encoder is developed to facilitate sensor characterization. The model is obtained through derivation of a new mathematical formula for the spectral characteristics of the error which accrues when a sampled, nominally constant-rate signal is uniformly quantized, having been subject to both differential and integral nonlinearities. The spectrum of the error in the ...

Performance Analysis Of Mono-bit Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (Difm) Device

Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) devices are the essential parts of anyESM, ELINT, and RWR receiver. Analog IFMs have been used for several decades. However, thesedevices are bulky, complex and expensive. Nowadays, there is a great interest in developing a wideband, high dynamic range, and accurate Digital IFMs. One Digital IFM that has suitably reached allthese requirements is mono-bi...

Decrease in Hardware Consumption and Quantization Noise of Digital Delta-Sigma Modulators and Implementation by VHDL

A new structure is presented for digital delta-sigma modulator (DDSM). Novel architecture decreases hardware consumption, output quantization noise and spurs in Comparison to previous architectures. In order to reduce the delay, power consumption and increase maximum working frequency, the pipelining technique and the carry skip adder are used. Simulation proposed architecture shows that the qu...

A Robust Digital Image Watermarking Scheme Based on DWT

In this paper a wavelet-based logo watermarking scheme is presented. The logo watermark is embedded into all sub-blocks of the LLn sub-band of the transformed host image, using quantization technique. Extracted logos from all sub-blocks are merged to make the extracted watermark from distorted watermarked image. Knowing the quantization step-size, dimensions of logo and the level of wavelet tra...

Novel Oversampling Technique for Improving Signal-to-Quantization Noise Ratio on Accelerometer-Based Smart Jerk Sensors in CNC Applications

Jerk monitoring, defined as the first derivative of acceleration, has become a major issue in computerized numeric controlled (CNC) machines. Several works highlight the necessity of measuring jerk in a reliable way for improving production processes. Nowadays, the computation of jerk is done by finite differences of the acceleration signal, computed at the Nyquist rate, which leads to low sign...
